Some lucky gadget fans have received their iPhone 4 already, more than 24 hours before Apple’s new iPhone officially goes on sale. Dozens of customers posted messages on Twitter saying that their iPhone had been delivered ahead of the device’s official launch on Thursday, while others uploaded unboxing videos to YouTube.
One tech blogger, Loyal Moses, posted a new entry on his blog, saying that he was “super impressed” with the iPhone 4.
The early deliveries so far appear to be restricted to iPhone customers in the United States. Some industry experts are questioning whether Apple and AT&T, the iPhone’s official carrier, are trying to spread the iPhone delivery and activation process over a number of days, in order to prevent a repeat of the technical problems that blighted the launch of the iPhone 3GS in the US.
“The most likely scenario is that Apple was conservative with shipping estimations,” Ross Rubin, executive director of industry analysis at the NPD Group, told the LA Times. “Then found out that some of the orders were arriving earlier and there was no need to artificially delay them and perhaps no way to do so.”
More than 600,000 iPhone pre-orders were placed on the first day of availability, making iPhone 4 the most successful Apple product launch of all time.
Gadget fans are expected to queue through the night at Apple stores across the country to ensure they are among the first to get their hands on the new device and iPhone 4 Cases, which features a new-look design, improved battery life, better camera, and runs the iOS4 operating system.
